Role Summary

Currently, we are seeking to recruit a Senior Accountant to join our Malta Office. The primary focus of this role that of overseeing the daily accounting operations, managing the month-end close process, ensuring compliance with local and international accounting standards (IFRS), and handling all Maltese tax and VAT regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will be reporting directly to the Head of Finance. This role is central to maintaining the financial integrity and efficiency of the company's accounting function.

What Will You Do?        

Accounting and Reporting

• Lead and manage the timely and accurate execution of the month-end and year-end financial closing processes.
• Prepare detailed monthly and annual management reports in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
• Manage the chart of accounts and ensure proper classification of all financial transactions.
• Oversee intercompany reconciliations and manage all general ledger activities.
• Review and reconcile complex balance sheet accounts, including fixed assets, accruals, and prepayments.

Compliance and Tax Management

• Ensure rigorous compliance with Maltese VAT and Corporate Tax regulations, including the timely and accurate submission of all required declarations and returns.
• Assisting with external audits, by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
• Maintain updated knowledge of IFRS changes and local regulatory requirements, adapting company policies as necessary.
• Supervise the correct documentation required for foreign supplier transactions, particularly those subject to specific compliance rules (e.g., Intrastat transactions, etc).

System Management and Process Improvement

• Utilize and maintain the company's ERP system to ensure data integrity and process efficiency.
• Identify opportunities for process automation and improvements within the accounting function to enhance efficiency and internal controls.
• Ensure all financial data is securely archived and accessible for audit purposes.

Mentorship

• Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff, fostering professional development within the team.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Technical Expertise:

• In-depth, practical knowledge of IFRS.
• Strong understanding of Maltese VAT, corporate tax, and legal requirements.
• Proven experience with a recognized ERP system (past experience with Sage X3 is considered a plus).
• Excellent Excel skills

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Professional Qualification: Must possess a recognized accounting qualification (e.g., Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, ACCA, or equivalent).
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Senior Accountant, preferably within a corporate or multinational environment.
• Language: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory.
